WoW acutaly had one of the worst charachter creation I ever saw in an MMO... It was so generic, a free MMO does the exact same thing... City of Heroes had probably the most interesting charachter creation, as you could do anything you wanted...

Those are the big features - alot of the discussion I see going on aside from that are the small things - the thread was just an idea for small features I'd like, nothing more. I agree completely, I don't want them spending more time on this than the things you mentioned above.

I could see getting scaars/wounds from battles being a temprary badge of honor while the player would have the option to get other things changed about them like haircuts, carrying trinkets on them, tattoes, etc.

Hair cuts are very plausible, however it wont be in because your hair grows, it would only be to change your looks. Same with tattoos. I doubt anything will be "unchangeable" in those regards. This is a sandbox game, to NOT have these options is redundant.
Growing hair? pff maybe in 5 years.

I want hair that grows naturally and you have to cut it once in a while to keep it the same. It would make a serious money-sink especially if you put the most elegant barber prices sky high
On a side note, it would probably be awful to have hair grow naturally, because many jerks would just leave it like that so in the end you'd have a crapload of people with insanely long hair

Btw. the idea reminds me of UO, where one they I accidently uses a scissor on my character and then he had blank hair, after that I never cut my hair again. :P And just to make that clear, yes I'm sometimes reffering to UO. It was a fantastic game and no I don't want to get UO2. There's nothing wrong about taking good ideas from a good game. That's actually what made WoW so popular, market research and taking good ideas from other games.

Oh I have absolutely nothing against long hair, I just thought a hair which grows at natural (albeit accelerated) pace in a game could result in rather jerky results where a lot of people just run around with long hair, just because they don't care what kind of hair their character has, I probably didn't phrase my thoughts well enough, sorry about that

It would be cool to be able to go to like an npc barber and be able to pick out the style of hair you want. It would be a lot easier for the devs if they just do that without hair growing.
Just when you are sick of the same haircut after awhile you can just get a new style. Even though it is first person so you wont be seeing your hair much unless there are mirrors in the game you can look into that would be cool. |

I just hope it is not too often, if it grows slower than hair grows real life then that is good for me, but if it grows quicker then I would not even want hair growing because it would take up too much of my time in the game.

Making them automated (however, yet customizable) feels like the next step, and it would make the cities and similar a much more dynamic place to be in, IMO. That hair growing thing would also be a cool feature, while you'd have to keep cutting the hair to keep it 'in style' so to speak. However as mentioned earlier, very hard to achieve on the technical aspect. One thing that I'd like to see is the fable-ish good/evil indicator on your appearance, which, albeit a bit more fantasy-oriented, would help you out in the wild to set apart friend from foe. And mainly because I'd also like to have a demon-hunting burning-eyes-beneath-bandana evil-ass buttninja, but that's besides the point. |

Actually hair growing just like real life would be just fine it would take a good 6 months for me to get real long hair. Maybe even a year. So if hair grows like real life that would be perfect

Maybe just 12-times accelerated, so that you'd get 1 years worth hair/beard in 1 month. Though I must admit I would create one character I wouldn't play for like 6 months just to open up the character and laugh myself near-dead at the insane amount of hair and beard the guy would have =D Indeed, let us create true unwashed hermits if we want to! Oh, and not bathing should add a venomous cloud around you, so that NPC's automatically attack you if you don't bathe occasionally
