I looked on the FAQ and couldn't find any info on Creatures,Animals,Mobs for this world. Also input those words in the search engine and nothing. The only thing being about the epic random bosses that has very little info.
I did see the Competition forum and looked at it today.Design a creature. I looked at them but to be serious there was very few I liked. So I just would like to know more on the creature concepts the dev's have in mind. Sure the teaser vid shows Dragons and a Rhino mount of sorts. So are we looking at more earthly creatures with a little mythology or are you also creating creatures that defy belief. I would love to see a good mix. I'ld be happy to have to fight realistic lions in a savanna environment or in the icey coastal beaches being afraid of the killer whales that might rush the beach in hope of capturing me between its teeth. But at the same time I could be happy walking in the desert and seeing the sand rise and move and approach me.Then a huge Sandmole pops out and with its razor claws making swipes at me. I also like the thought of unholy things and having them in game and with the inclusion of a religion feature in game they make for good ying and yang. So it be great for the devs to give us a direction for debate on the creatures they invisage in game. Last edited by Volkira : 26th February 2009 at 10:12. |

Hi,
Check out devs comments on the subject here. I think that MO mobs will be original ones but still inspired from RL. I also think that though fantasy would be involved you wont be seeing flying eyes or simillar stuff. My observation is that the devs are aiming for dark world setting with logical/explainable type of monsters.

You said you looked at the creature contest. It sounds like perhaps you never browsed through the post-contest winner thread though.
They do detail a bit more on what they are going after and maybe you can find this link useful. http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/3...-comments.html Edit: Adrala beat me to the search |

the mix is best... just hope a lion wont drop swords or armors... every creature must have a loot corresponding to its belonging grop for example beast must be killed just for leather or food... humanoids for money and gear... daemons for magic reagents or so

I'm more of a fan of low fantasy but then we have Orcs, Elves and Magic soooo...I guess we'll be having a mix of realistic and fantasy creatures.

I like a mix of creatures, but I personally prefer them to mostly be real creatures. Magical creatures are often thought of as more sentient than other wildlife, and should be more adept at hiding from civilization. Magical creatures should also be more dangerous, and a source of rare resources. While real creatures would simply drop something like "tough hide" something like a unicorn should drop "glittering hide" (with special properties). Wandering outside of town should not provide anything fantastical, but if you go deep into the forest, you should be prepared for much more interesting encounters.

I think (also hope) that they will add Mixed... like not way off reality, nor very realistic :P
i will be happy with anything if they are not way off the track tbh

I love the idea of sea travel and especially sea animals and even monsters, I'd like to see a pack of dolphins and then fight off a kraken. There should be both real and mythical beasts like fleeing from a pack of wolves and running into a chimera. I would like to see some more PvE from the Alpha.

As it's been said before, having both realistic and fantastical mobs in the best option.
Mythical creatures is good. But having rogue, agressive NPCs hanging out at random places is good too. But real animals will probably feel a bit lame compared to the giant mount we saw in the teaser. Just my 2 cents. |
