Ultima Online of course.. Though before it became Item-Based and they added retarded crap such as resistances and luck, etc.. I actually prefer the game the most before Trammel was introduced, but a lot of good things were added afterwards that do contribute to why I believe that UO was the best game ever. Such as customizable housing, plant growing, vet rewards, factions, etc..
Edit: There are way too many WoW votes in this poll than there should be. This almost gives me concern for how this game is going to turn out.. WoW only did a couple of things great. Such as UI customization (Note that I did not say Mods or Addons just UI tools), keybindings menu, actually I cannot think of anything else honestly. Professions sucked, pvp sucked, quests sucked, leveling sucked, classes were imbalanced, Item binding sucked, instances sucked, too much travel time to get to locations, etc...

I have played UO/SB/DAoC/Guild Wars (if you can count guild wars as an MMO)
Id say UO is by far the best out of those 4 SB was good but I felt they took to many short cuts making the game. DAoC was a decent game (my wife really enjoyed it) but underneath a decent RvR system it was just an EQ clone with better PvP and sieges Guild Wars is what it is nuff said |

Irth Worlds,
Though it was buggy as all hell and then all support for it went kapoot! But, the idea behind the game was excellent. The map was huge! No Classes, completely Character-Skill-Based. Now, if only there were an MMORPG with a world map the size of Daggerfall's... (anyone ever try to cross that without fast travel?) |

On so many levels, EVE is the best MMO ever made. The impersonal nature of the spaceship genre is the only thing that really kills it for me.
WoW is good at what it does and if you think outside the box you can have a lot of fun. If Wow wasn't so ridiculously treadmill-like and level-restricted it'd have my vote. Lineage 2 is such a horrendous game but for a long time its PvP was great. Many many memories both good and bad from that game. I suppose EVE gets my vote strictly from the theoretical perspective. Here's to hoping a game can come out with such an amazingly dynamic economic and political system in a fantasy setting.

I clearly had to vote UO, because those years were probably the best in all my gaming life.

WoW definitely had a good interface... And I liked that it could be modded to appear just about any way you wanted it to.

LotRO is the only MMO account I currently have... Though, I may cancel it, haven't played in over a week.

I hate to pick the obvious... but WoW is the best. That being said, I never played the top pick, Ultima Online. But, as sick of WoW we all may be, you can't deny that Blizzard just about perfected the MMO genre with their game. Things have taken a turn for the worse, though with the extreme focus on BG, Arena and PVP. It is all so fake and pasted on as a band-aid. The game hasn't been the same since they introduced honor.

Voted for SWG Pre CU. Even if many aspects of the game were broken, I have never experienced that kind of immersion again. The factions, the guild cities, the hologrind, the skill based lvling, the bounty hunters .. man those were good times.

I tryed UO for the first time in 98' i think. But i wasn't very old and my english really sucked. So i gave up.
But the last 8 years i played UO on and off, tryed lots MMO's, but i haven't really found anything like it. I still enjoy UO today. Alot. Sure it had its up and downs, specially after AoS. But today the PvP is balanced okayish. I don't ever think i will find a game where you need so much player skill. The 2d view is simply fantastic for teamplay. Better then anything out there. And the Faction days in UO. Ohh my, so much fun! UO #1 ! |
