UO > all of the above imo. ofc i've only played a third of the games up there, so i guess i can't really say that. although, i can't believe anyone would have voted for anarchy online, unless it was the ONLY mmo they've played.

Ultima online for sure. First few years it was an amazing game. Siege server came out and it got better. Eventually it went downhill after that. It has been the only game to ever keep me up until 4am for years straight and having to wake up 2-4 hours later for school or work.

UO nothing comes close!
All those, that vote diffrent didnt had the luck to be there when it happend! But they will all get a chance to experience what the buzz is all about when MO comes out! The WOW votes scare me but I guess its people that can not differentiate a themepark game from a sandbox game because they never played sandbox... The EQ votes shock me as that was probably the worst MMo ever! I tried it and - no thrill that I could get attacked, just like a singleplayer game...(PvP server werent up back than) uninstalled it the same day I tried it out! I can see that diffrent player types enjoyed that game - but what are they here for?!?!?!

DAoC for it's RvR, its massive fights (200vs200), its upgradable keeps, its huge open PvP area, its loads of differents races, its mythological lore.
The day a DAoC2 will release, I know I'll camp it for years again :] Never tried UO.. well, I did a few months ago.. but even if it sounds a great game, I hate the graphisms :x |

Besides, graphics are one of the weakest factors in creating a great game and those companies that put graphics on the top of the list rarely turn out to have a great game. |

Yea, i understand what you mean, Arxon Havenloft.
I do not put graphics on the top of my wanted list (but I do put 3D, even ugly 3D) but when they are too old, I just hard for me to enjoy the game :\ I liked DAoC all the time, and it never never had wonderfull graphics. So wrong :] There are some lil difference between them.. DAoC had /stick and /face command, WAR gameplay is WoW-like. DAoC let you chose race and class, WAR let you chose class. DAoC has been made by the old Mythic team, WAR is produced by EA-Mythic. DAoC has loads of usefull skills for (almost) everyone, WAR give each character 2-3 buttons to spam. And the bigest difference, that makes WAR is definately not DAoC2 : DAoC had 3 factions, WAR has only 2 (and that sux so much). Anyway, I'll play WAR a least some months :] |

I'll play WAR until it gets out of beta.. But I don't see myself buying it upon release. I just hope that I can help with whatever feedback or bugs that I can find, and it's a good time sink for me at the moment. It's not a bad game it's just not my kind of game.

UO's graphics are really more of an acquired taste. eventually, you can't help but enjoy them.
definitely the 2d version though, not the "3d" updated version (teh n00b version imo).

SWG before NGE. Free skill based system, open world, non-combat skill (crafter, dancer, musician, medic), exploration, housing, player citys, real living pub (cantinaa)
A real community interaction, hunter sell/give ressource to crafter, crafter sell/give weapon to hunter, same with medic (ooh fucking NGE :'( ). But UO is a good momery too. |

Voted Lineage 2. Gues I hade a great time roleplaying an ork from that game, plus the pvp is quite fast, and there are no arenas. Played wow for some time, but the graphics just scared me away back to L2.

And there are arenas in L2, they're just insignificant. On the other hand, you could call the Olympiad fights arena fights and they're quite important, considering Heroes is what PvP is about these days. Anyways, L2 gets more fucked up with every new Chronicle. NCNA doesn't care about bots and cheaters. Hell, they fired the GM who went on a rampage and banned a bunch of botters. I voted L2 as well btw. Simply cause it was my first MMO and every other one I've tried afterwords has not even come close.

I pick EVE Online. Rubies of Eventide was fun due to it's community, but other than that, I think the game sucked big time. It had pretty small community, and I knew about half of the players there, it was great fun.

I actually enjoyed UO's graphics as well (the original 2D version). While 3D may ultimately be more immersive, I actually like the 2D isometric approach of UO.

you know come to think of it, it's not that i love 3D graphics - it's just that... well, i got used to it. initially it was a big hit - "3D graphics? like with Myst but with moving around? wow, soon we'll be playing in virtual reality like the cyberpunk books said"... but games didn't suddenly become more immersive or particularly more fun for being first person - sure the added targeting & spatial awareness skills where a nice touch, in fact a whole genre of games emerge from this (FPS's), but some games where more immersive and some where less and some of the first where isometric & some of the later where less immersive despite first person view... and in fact i would say that in many 3rd person view games the 3D graphics didn't matter, didn't add anything to the immersion or the gameplay.
the first game i played where i felt that the 3D graphics from a first person view really added a lot, was Thief. the 'clastrophobia' of the limited vision in first person view actually added a lot to the feeling of being a thief wearing a covering hood over his head and going for the shadows whenever he can... FPV & 3D graphics can add a lot to a game, if it does something about it. it can add to the immersion, give you the feeling of 'suffering under the human condition' so to speak, with the disorientations and limits that come with it - even more limiting then your pair of eyes give you in reality. but alone - it's not enough.

I voted for WoW ( ::dodges some flying tomatoes:: ), but it was my first ever MMO and the best experienced that I ever had on the genre. I have however sinced moved away from the game, but needed to cast my vote nevertheless.
