Ok. I know there was an issue with not being able to download the patches earlier. This is something different.
I can download the patch just fine. It starts updating files I get to file 141 and then it says patching error failing to open new file! I can't play Mortal. How can I fix this? I'm getting this error. Writing New File ERROR: Failure Opening New File: E:\Program Files (x86)\Star Vault\Mortal Online\mortalonline\UnrealEngine3\MortalGame\Cooke dPC\Maps\MortalOnline\Myrland\RTO21450 I'm trying to figure this one out. Any help would be nice. Last edited by MeduliMadness : 7th December 2011 at 07:23. |

try to save ALL of your patches (.mop and .exe files in your "mortalonline" folder) on your desktop, then uninstall MO (and check if there are undeleted folders), re-install MO, put the saved patches back into the "mortalonline" folder, run the launcher.

Khisk this is what you need to do.
Go to C:\Program Files\Star Vault\Mortal Online\mortalonline\UnrealEngine3\MortalGame\Cooke dPC\Maps\MortalOnline\Myrland\RTY74520 and delete the file RTY74520 then delete the newest patch you just downloaded and try again. It should redownload the patch and try to reinstall the files. |

I'm having the same problem. I didn't have MO installed, so I had to go through the entire 9GB download. (Got the 5 day free come back email.) It installed, and now it's trying to instal the patch, and I get the can't open file error. What I'm thinking, and I haven't checked this yet, is that the file in question is "read only." If so, unchecking "read only" should unlock the file, allowing it to patch. Can anyone verify it that will work. (I'm not home right now.)

I'm actually getting an error that does not give me the full path. It says it can't open a file. I'm thinking the file might be a patch file that got corrupted. Does this mean downloading the entire 9GB again?

I uninstalled everything. I'll download the files once more, and if it fails to patch, I'll take that as a hint that I really don't want to come back yet. lol I just don't have time for this clown shit.

Same thing. Throws the error:
Patching Error! Failure Opening New File: D:\Programs\Mortal It doesn't even give me a full directory path (there is no "mortal" directory, but a "Mortal Online" directory). Unless someone has a fast solution, I think me and my friend will just wait another 6 months or so before we try to come back. This isn't a very good indication that things are moving along too well. Ironicall, rather, the patcher doesn't work for the people you offered and invitation to come back. LMAO.

EDIT: It may also help to verify that the patcher is running as an admin and that you did not inadvertently change some of the compatibility settings of the shortcut to the launcher. A fast way to test this would be to go to the MO directory and launch the patcher directly by double clicking the "updater.exe". Please note that you should not run the game directly from this method. This is only a suggestions to help with the patcher issues. When the patcher finishes make sure to close out and then relaunch with the regular shortcut or the actual launcher application so as to insure all of the applications settings are correctly passed. Hope this helps -Tillweed Last edited by Tillweed : 13th December 2011 at 00:43. |

Seriously Paratus we shouldn't have to be experts in windows in order to install and update this game. How many customers do you think StarVault loses just because they can't install Mortal.
You never see WoW players complaining about how they can't install the game. |

Thanks for the help. I got the error path and deleted the file. Then ran it again, and got another error in the same way with another path/file. I just deleted it and restarted the patcher again.
ERROR: Failure Opening New File: D:\Programs\Mortal Online\mortalonline\UnrealEngine3\MortalGame\Cooke dPC\Packages\StaticMeshes\TerrainProps\RTK65550 I think the last file did update after deleting it, so we'll see what happens. Thanks for telling me where the patch file was located. Quote:

LMAO. But he does have a point, but mentioning WoW has the effect of obscuring it: Other games don't have problems like this when patching their games. But then again, we've come to love the SV error problems and bugs.

It looks like the problem is in the Unreal directory under many of the directories. I didn't write them all down, but I did start to keep a list of files that I had to delete after the patcher created, or tried to create, them. This is bullshit. Very time consuming:
RTK63720 RTK42540 RTP88560 RTK00260 RTP40440 RTP46260 RTB25510 RTD25960 RTD27050 RTD48140 RTU73540 RTT54430 RTT56550 RTR94720 RTQ50660 RTQ56740 RTK25560 and it's still not finished. I really hope new players are not experiencing this because they'll simply not play.

Any help on this? I've deleted about 30 files already. What happens is that the patcher tries to create the file and fails to open it. Then I have to delete the file it tried to create, then run it again. After I run it, it errors on yet another file. It's going to take hours because it's on file 305ish and it has over 500 files to patch. Not all of them error, but enough do that it will take hours to complete.

This is bullshit. StarVault is losing new potential players because of this. It should be a main priority to make sure the game is downloadable and update-able even before in game bugs. Paratus it looks like you have some important work to do. |

Yes, I've tried running it in admin mode, but think about what you just said. If it were a permissions problem, deleting the file and rerunning the patcher would result in it stopping on the same file over and over, regardless of deleting it ande rerunning the patcher.
Yeah, for sure, I'd like to give SV some money--the trouble is, I can't patch the game in order to log in. So, yeah, that's going to be a revenue problem. I know you guys are working harder than shit, but really. It's only 420 once a day, not all day.

I'd sure like to give SV some sub money--to bad I still can't patch the game! LMAO. I'm kinda wanting to know how my pre patch pre heavy armor skill Heavy Armor dude will play now after training Heavy Armor to 100, since he has 100 archery, 100 poleaxes, and 98 taming, and all riding skills maxed and 119STR---lol. Now he'll be faster on his feet and have more stam--yah!

Got the same problem, have tried everything stated above, even tried disabling UAC and moving the Star Vault folder to C:\Users\YourNameHere. Nothing works.
Paratus could you please look more into this? Don't want to waste more time trying to fix a broken patching process. |

They're a bit stumped as well. The vast majority of people have no issues patching Mortal Online but even if just one person out of thousands does, that's too many. What I do know is that the issues described are almost certainly related to the specific system, it's just tracking down exactly what on that system is doing it (the same error could be produced by different things on different systems, too). The issue in question within this thread is usually related to some sort of security software or hard drive problem. Huggmuth, could you please post the last line from your patch log file for the patch which is failingÉ |

Here is the last line of the patch log, be on mind that this isn't the first file the launcher came across, as deleting the file with the error and then restarting the launcher seems to fix the problem, but only with the file you just deleted. And there seem to be many Quote:

Did you edit that string at all? Because there is a space there that shouldn't be. If its not something that you introduced it could be the problem, buts its likely a result of the copy/paste:
Cooke dPC instead of CookedPC

I did everything aforementioned in this post. It always stops at 244/539 files and it is always a different file after I delete first offending one. I uninstalled and redownloaded game 3x. Kind of down about it since my friend and I just started playing 3 days ago. I had no problem, nor him nor my cousin in installing the first time.

Never mind, Hefeisten was on the right track. I am using a 60G SSD for windows and MO and it was almost full (8G left). I deleted all the patches that were already installed and updated (1of3,2of3,3of3), freed up 10G and voila everything working!

Hey guys, I finally broke down and redownloaded the entire game, let it completely finish it's download/update procedure w/o turning Windows off, and it installed and now runs. I just started it and went to bed. Woke up the next morning with an error about something on the login screen, shut it down, restarted, and it works.

My issue too was simply harddrive space. I had around 6gb free, and it would cause these file errors. I freed my harddrive up to 13gb, which let the patcher finish (and then had 15gb free after patch).
Paratus, I think the issue lies in some sort of way it unpacks files while patching, requiring more space than might be realized at first. For what its worth.

I just came back after a 2+ year absence to attempt giving the game another try and have been riddled with install problems for 2 days now. I attempted re-installing the setup file and moving the patches back into the folder, deleting the files that caused the errors, etc. (On more than 1 occasion). The entire folder was deleted more than once with everything reinstalled, and still received the same problems. I'm now downloading the entire setup and patches again from scratch.
This is a great welcome back to the game. :\ |

So I downloaded the setup file and all patches again... with the launcher and received the same "Old file" error. After searching through the forums, this issue has been occurring for a year and was supposed to be fixed with Dawn.
If I uninstall and move the patches back into the folder, it's amusing that a different file is what causes the error. Here is one example, "Applying MODIFY File Patch for 'mortalonline\UnrealEngine3\MortalGame\CookedPC\Ma ps\MortalOnline\Myrland\Cave_SpiderCaveC.mo' ERROR: Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match. " |
