Many of my friends as well as other MO players are able to idle their characters online either to wear out those last few murdercount-ticks or to have a greater skill gain while reading a book. What ever the reason, why am i unable to idle? After just an hour or so i get booted when i Idle! Other people do it all night or until a server restart. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks. |

Not sure if MO is similar/the same. Another thing could be unreliable ISP. They might take it down. For a short while, I had an ISP that couldn't seem to keep my internet running during the night, so I'd be gaming at around 2-3am on a weekend and then just DC and not be able to get internet back for 30-40 minutes. Broken Modem/Router/Interweb cord could be a problem, too. The best solution would be to call your ISP, explain your problem (just say you have programs that require a constant internet connection while you're sleeping, for downloading or something) and hopefully they can help you out. Try to have your computer settings in mind, hardware, as well. Try to get the model numbers of your modem/router as well.

Those are the only things I can think of that would cause a problem. Sorry.

One old-fashioned method to try to find out what is causing it is to watch your computer at about the time it usually disconnects. Watch your internet connection, any changing settings, etc. Is it always at exactly the same amount of time? It could change the list of possible reasons if it's exactly the same time, or somewhat random. |

Whenever I idle in town, in ghost form or alive, after a few hours my game crashes on me.
Even if it runs ALL DAY without a crash, while idling for hours, I crash.

That is already, as i said, not the case. I wish it were.... However, I unlike the last comment, crash in town or out of town regardless--by crash i mean into the name/password field of mo--and i would very much like this fixed. Any other ideas as to why? I'm going to try leaving my monitor on the next time i Idle and see if it has anything to do with the monitor software...

Memory leaks.
Don't idle in towns, waterfalls, player pasages, crouded places etc. Prefer remote places and always i means ALWAYS have your settings to the absolute minimum! Try to leave the game in a neutral state so no GUI open also. Use DX9 since DX10 seems buggy. EDIT: All those things shouldn't happen but i guess, Unreal is a bitch.

If you move close to an object and thus this object is loaded in your memory its programming functions are loaded also. Now if due to faulty programming some of those functions cause memory leaks as long as you remain close to this object the more the junk stored in your memory and the higher will be the risk for you to crash unless you move away from that object so that it gets unloaded from the memory and thus the problemtic functions stop to run and all the junk stored are erased. Thats why you got good fps in the wilderness, good fps if you firstly go into a town but after some time in that town there is a drop in the fps but if then you return in the wilderness the fps will in some cases slowly return to normal as the problematic objects and functions are getting unloaded from your memory. That of course doesn't mean that there aren't any problematic spots in the wilderness (jungle, waterfalls, etc). So avoid those also.

Are you able to see that your connection is stable the whole time? I had a problem with my isp. It would disconnect for like 10 seconds every once and awhile. If I was just surfing the web, you wouldn't notice it at all. It was however, long enough to kick me off the game. I set up mumble and left it on all night and could visually see where it would disconnect and then immediately reconnect.
I called the ISP and told them that I was getting these random disconnects and they didn't believe me, so I went through my mumble logs and said I got disconnected at like 9:12, 10:17, 10:32, 1:27, 3:47...yada yada. They were like how in the hell do you know that

As long as you refresh your status every now and then, you wont be kicked from the game.

if you are running windows 7 and your computer goes into sleep mode then it can cause your internet connection to break so that might be why you can play all day and not get dc and when you go to sleep then you'll dc cause your comp goes into sleep mode
