I tried every suggestion I could find and couldn't get past the nowgame.exe crashing at the splash screen. Reinstalled the game and patches, updated drivers and DirectX, .NET 3.5, and Visual C++ 05 and 08 runtimes. Still didn't work so I resorted to disabling my antivirus and uninstalling unimportant programs to no avail. Finally out of frustration I reformatted my PC and installed only the drivers from windows update. The game installed and played perfectly on the first try afterwards. For some of you out there like me who were pulling your hair out in frustration this might be a better option to consider instead of wasting hours repatching and looking for some obscure incompatibility with an existing piece of software or drivers.
