I really think that this proves the point that (other than temet and fermer should get a chat client or something

) rep can be rather pointless and more based off randomness or maliciousness more than anything else.

If someone makes a post stating a point and someone else disagrees with them, often they will get negative repped for it. That is truly dumb because if it is your opinion, you should not be de repped for it.

I personally dislike the rep system, and I would prefer it being out.

That being said, my favorite rep was an ascii drawing of the certain part of the males body.

Yeah though, I agree (as most everyone here probably already knows). The single biggest influence I've seen rep exert is on people not posting things which others might disagree with, and personally I think that's regrettable.

Negrep from freshcomers ... well, I don't cry about useless thing like that.
But if one of old MO horses would negrep me ... it would lead to anarchy and wreck havoc

I like how the rep does work when it is actually used properly, it is just that it is often abused more often than not. The reality of it all is the fact that rep really does not mean all that much at all. It is just a shiny little number (with green boxes!) by your avatar. In the end, I suppose it is a good concept, and that we might as well have it because sometimes it gives some incentive to make good posts and to not flame; however, this is not always (or even often, for that matter) the case.

So I guess we should keep rep, why not? As long as it does not get massively abused I suppose it is alright.

I've never been neg repped, even though I have a nasty habit of arguing and generally being kind of an ass. I'm too cool I guess

I get positive rep from people for stupid reasons though. I'll make some giant post with a lot of information in it, some quality stuff right. No rep from that. Then some guy will give me rep for a bad pun/joke I made in some other thread. Suffice to say the whole system is useless. I don't use it at all.
