This game is about freedom (most likely) , don't restrict it into roleplaying and not roleplaying, I might roleplay whilist I'm in the mood, that doesn't mean I want to RP all the time or not RP at all.

I think you misunderstood my original post. I was saying that if there were servers designated for RPing, then the policies set forth for them should be strictly adhered to.

If there aren't any, however, then by no means should such rules be enforced on a normal server.

I clearly did understand your post, but as I posted, I or many others don't want a darn RP server. We want to stick to our normal servers with all the leet speakers and do roleplaying there when we wish.

Ill agree,

People are much more mature on RP servers, I really hate these tools that have the 0mg1Rl33t names. I just don't want to play with them and this is usually the best way to go about it.

To me all RPing is, using proper English Grammar, good spelling; and no "OMFG NUBS I R LEET HAXOR" as long as people are staying away from all of that, to me they are already RPing in one form or another, and that's all he is saying, if a server has certain rules, they are inforced by the GM's so you won't ever see "T3hPwn3r3r" as a name for someone, nor the screams of "OMFG NUB" through the countryside...

You act like there's no one that RP's 24/7.
You can RP at any point on a regular server, however, if you want to RP 24/7 you'd need a server that was regulated.
It's not RESTRICTING anything, as you said, you don't have to RP 24/7 because you choose not to, SO DON'T GO ON AN RP SERVER.
It shouldn't cause ANY problems at all, because if you don't want to RP, don't go on an RP server...
There's absolutely no argument for not putting in RP servers, and small/minor/insignificant arguments for not regluating them.

I have no interest in RP'ing - but at one point I tried it, and it was ruined by these unregulated/uninforced servers, so I believe they have every right to the servers they want.

if they make RP servers then ofc there should be strickt rules and moderating. and warn, then remove those who dont follow the rules.

I really enjoy RP-ing, and aslong as they are moderated i would love to have them putting up a server/servers for it.

First post on these forums, but I need to agree with my buddy Thargan. I've been on too many servers that have a huge disdain for roleplayers. and will try anything to disrupt any roleplaying you try. It just works so much better when you're with a bunch of like minded individuals who understand what you're trying to do and are willing to respect it.

Other than saying that, I don't think I could say it better than Killer did. Roleplaying servers need to be regulated, or else they are just normal servers with a different name. Seperate the groups, and you won't have needless arguments.

I so agree. Moderated RP servers can be so much fun. But if not moderated , its useless.

Just another thought - what if instead of GM's playing on the server, they designated senoir members who have proven them selves worthy to moderate the server.

Obviously you can't just pick anyone - like me, if I was picked I'd most likely ban the first smart ass that mouthed off to me :P, but there are people who I'm sure would be great at it.

I think that's a great idea, although people whom get paid for it are pretty much guaranteed to do a better job. Dedicated players are also going to be playing the game, and it would be very difficult to not give your guild or whatever bonuses in game. It's a delicate situation, but it can be done.

As a side note, and way off topic, where abouts in BC are you from, Shawk? If you don't mind me asking.

Meh, the only thing said moderators would be able to do would be to ban/suspend/change names. The wouldn't have the generic powers of Game-masters such as blowing up whatever they see fit or creating items.

And obviously there would be a petition system, so if you were wrongly punished - you could appeal it and possibly end the reign of said Moderator.

Sounds good, although I still think some overwatch would be required. I think you misunderstood my statements about aiding their guilds, though. I didn't mean they'd have GM powers, I just meant that they would be more willing to support their guildmates in an inter-personal conflict. You're right about the individuals out there who are dedicated enough to resist, though. I think it could definitely lower the strain on developers.

If someone gets too many violations on an RP server they are marked for perma-death. Everyone on the server can kill any one of their characters and they can never come back.

Good idea! And for anyone that only wants to RP sometimes, there could be Normal/RP servers.

I have seen normal servers with enforced names and the likes, and that worked great. I'm talking Vanguard, people. I play on one of the normal servers. They're not that high on the real grammar, but usually all the people I've met are in fact friendly and open, and gladly helped me with directions when I needed. MMORPG's are not lost yet, we don't need an RP server to enjoy the game.

Exactly, and since this game is full pvp it will be harder for someone to run through an RP scene spamming chuck norris jokes. After a few times losing all his gear and money to RPers they will learn their lesson (hopefully) and move on.

Although Rping aint at the top of my list that i want to do i love RP servers and the whole vibe i get. Sure sometimes i might not be in the mood but thats fine ill just say im out of character. However i do plan to roll on a Rp server if they have any.

auto-spell-check + replacing caps not in the start of a word with regulars, and now everyone's a roleplayer

i realize your being sarcastic but actually considering not only me but even the Dev's have had spelling trouble (in their Q&A's), i think auto-spell-check built into the in-game chat might be a good idea.

Also, IIRC DAOC had something like an "Auto-IC-ifier" system that made chat sound more appropriate.

I am not an RPer and I don't want RP servers. RP servers tend to suck out a lot of mature players out of the normal servers. Plus I like the immersion that RPers bring to the game.
