A thread of what ifs. The most popular focus in the alternate history strain is what if the Axis forces had won the war. I like to ponder what would have befallen England if the Normans had failed their invasion...also, what if Scotland had remained pagan and St Columbus had failed in his conversion...feel free to post your queries and feel free to answer other people's.
If Axis won, it would have collapsed from within when hitler would have died. May be it would have taken a long time, like for USSR, China, North Korea, but remember authoritarian regimes were built on personality cult. Remove the leader, everything fall apart. Not to mention their economic system are totally unsustainable. But the geopolitical set up would be much much different now. US wouldn't be that powerful, USSR might have fell apart more quickly, Mao wouldn't have been able to seize power because japanese would have continued their domination of Asia, Shintoism might have become a major religion (for the lulz), etc. etc. One other popular alternate history, is "What if Napoleon had won ?", but same applies, once he would have died, the empire would have collapsed, especially because he put family members as head of other countries. Then there's north american history, what if Napoleon didn't sell Louisiana ? (which was at the time, a huge part in the middle of NA) may be everyone from New Orleans to Seattle would speak french what if CSA won against USA ? The best one of course is : What if Rome didn't fall ?
The Netherlands had a stricter soft drugs policy. Women never got ''equal'' rights. Black people weren't such fast runners. Mortal online actually was a fun game to play. Poop would smell like roses. Masturbation did make your palms grow hair. Beards would be the norm not the exception. Bellybuttons would be weird. Cancer didn't exist. The U.S. was a third world country. You could mute people in real life. GRRM dies before he can finish his A Song of Ice and Fire series. Screws would screw themselves. That has to be my longest post on this forum.
Hmm, it wasn't sustainable anyway. It survived merely because its leaders continued to conquer, so I reckon it would have fallen to in-fighting of rebels and expanded borders. Look at Rome for example, a highly organised and efficient force and even they were weakened by Rome's size and its large frontiers.
Over-extension. Even if the Empire was shining under Genghis's rule, and was well really organized and administrated, it was above all based on brute force domination of the subjects, plus it was too decentralized with too many different people on a gigormous chunk of earth. The only natural evolution, was the breaking up of the empire in several entities. The Timurid horde, the golden horde, the Yuan China, the Khalkha, the Oirats etc.
What if Atlantis hadn't sunk? What if X country had primarily taken over North America? (China, Russia, UK, France, Spain, etc) What if the Spanish/Europeans hadn't killed ~80% of native Americans via disease? What if we had found intelligent life on Mars?
hmm probably right, but it would have had a impact on todays europe, as their presence might(even if they only remained in power for 100-200 ish years) change todays culture, we might be having a difrent second language and a much higher chinese/mongolian population
