    Yes I said BROKEN

You all know what I am talking about, the scenario is disgusting and always leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

You go to a town, you see some folks who are blue players you know are bad or you just want to kill them, anyway you hit them, they run away, they escape into town, whatever the case may be they get away and escape their would be attacker.

You've lost sight of your target, 30 seconds to a minute later you get the message, "You have received a murdercount from [Blank]".

All you can think is WTF , how did I get this when I didn't murder him, you go into town you find a blue lootbag, and you put 2+2 together... the bastard committed suicide by calling the guards too many times:mad:. This is blatant exploitation.

Yes people if you hit someone and they escape you, they will put salt on the wound of your embarrassment by killing themselves and STILL being allowed to issue murdercounts to you REGARDLESS of the fact that you did not kill them! But instead the Guards did!

Here I petition to the Developers and the GM's to change policy and consider this an exploit of a broken game mechanic whilst also simultaneously FIXING it ONCE AND FOR ALL.

While I do agree that some system to flag well known griefers as grey or locally allowed (most likely through the territory control system, if it had any meaning) would be a good thing, your statement here is essentially: "it's an exploit not being able to get away scot free with attempted murder".

Well, it's not, and what is more important, it shouldn't. Believe me, if you had played to EVE online you wouldn't be so quick to dismiss a system that punishes also the attempts at killing. I am pretty sure that most of the people that is now crying for MC on suicide to be removed would be the first to cry "fix the broken suicide ganking mechanic" if MCs on killing attempts were removed.

    EDIT: corrected a nonsensical sentence.

As it is currently, it is only good for griefing, attempting to kill someone and actually murdering them are two different things.

Why should I be issued a murdercount on a broken system where a person attacked can go into town, simply put away their stuff in the bank, call the guards 3 times, die, and issue murdercounts.

    Suicide counts are not murdercounts.

or maybe he pressed the suicide button..?
  7. RhodriTaliesin Cronite Supporter

That too, either way it is a form of griefing, and (at least in my opinion, and I hope most of yours.) and exploit of a broken mechanic.
  8. Traveller_ Junior Member

No. While it is good for griefing, that's not true that it is good only for it. It is also a decent way to prevent an excessive amount of suicide ganking, at least judging from the current situation. The fact that you don't see its benefits doesn't mean they aren't there.

I believe your local police officer might have something to say on the matter.

Err... because you tried to murder them?

I do agree that it is a bit stupid having to suicide to report someone attempting to kill you, but while going to an NPC to report an attempted murder would be much cooler, it would also be a silly way to waste dev resources that are already very tight.

And those resources are tight for reasons like this, I'm all for player justice, but this is not the way.

Bounties, Hits, Territory Control and outlawing players, that's all fine and dandy, but making a player a GLOBAL RED MURDERER through SUICIDE by GUARDS, is not the answer, it is unbalanced, poorly designed, and broken for all intents and purposes as far as this mechanic goes.

Suicide ganking, it's called Assassination, and it will always happen when someone is willing to take the MC over it.

On a side note Assassination will only get worse with Awakening since there will be no more insta whack lictors, so that is hardly an excuse for this mechanic to be the way it is.

As it is, the punishment is enough that the target got away safe and sound and is probably gathering friends for a counter attack.

    P.S.

I reiterate, SUICIDE IS NOT MURDER

This sentence does not even make sense. Their resources are tight because they need to work on new cities, trade brokers, new mage schools, ships, UI, expand TC, etc. I do understand that you want to argue your point, but I would suggest to stick to something a little more sensible.

Poorly designed? Most likely. "Broken for all intents and purposes"? I yet have to see one good argument about this in this thread. The fact that it is stupid does not mean it's broken or that it doesn't accomplish a function.

*sigh* No. Do you even know what you are talking about? Assassination means you hit someone, kill him, loot him if need be, and get away. Or at least you try to do that. Suicide ganking means you hit someone, kill him, loot him, get guarded, and a friend/alt legally loots your grey corpse of anything you stole from the victim without any concern.

Exactly. Do we even have anything more to talk about? Either you are willing to take the MC, or you aren't. If you fail, too bad, but there is no reason in the world why you shouldn't get the count.

I don't get it. You are saying that things are getting worse with awakening, so you want to get rid of the only mechanic that might keep "assassination" in check?

Spoken like a true counterstrike player. :D Actions have consequences. Deal with them.
