Linked Trade Vendors

Discussion in 'Feedback & Suggestions' started by Bludger, May 1, 2012.

  1. Please consider linking all Trade Vendors (Auction Houses) listings.

All listings world wide should be linked.
Collection points can still remain at the city of the vendor location.

    This will help assist in several important things;

    1. People will be more likely to travel to collect and transport goods, because who really is going to travel across the map just to look at a Trade vendor's listings.
    2. Will create real competition between towns and vendor locations, because a true comparison of price listings will be readily available.
    3. Crafting will potentially flourish, as good crafters will have their wares advertised to the entire player population, not just to those from the same city location.

This is one instance I feel where the realism aspect of non-linked auction houses is far out weighed by adopting a non realistic approach of linking all listings.

    cheers

I do not support. That takes away from the feel of the game. We weren't mean to have global functions.

this is never gonig to happen, besides its a trade broker not an auction house.

althoguh i would like global chats add but only if you sleep within a tavern can you access it or campfire.
  4. Diphling The Desperado

I wouldnt mind Regional chat, if in specific locations, but definantly never a global.

Mixed feelings about this. While I am against it, in principle, it won't take much for people to obtain the info just by using the trial accounts.

On the other hand, even that small amount of hassle might be enough that would foster more variaibility in regional prices, while people relly interested (i.e. merchants) would still be able to easily gather the intel. In doubt, it's probably better not to have global listings.
  6. Not being flippant, but "/whisper" is global, what if for realism you had to be standing next to someone for /whisper to work? And control tower info is globally available, what if instead you had to scour the world looking for them

You will never have a truly thriving robust economy without some global functions.

Some will bypass lack of trade broker global functions with alts in locations, vent, irc etc. Why not just have the info in for everyone?

No one is complaining about mortalonline map? its a global function that allows information dissemination of up-to-date events, yet no one is crying about it taking away from the feel of the game that installs without map functions?

If you make Trade broker information global people will travel. Without it people are less likely to travel.

For example, your at Meduli, Trade Broker info is theres a bargain at Toxia, soyou travel across the world with gold to Toxia to collect goods and a return trip to Meduli with the goods - IF you knew they were available BUT would you and your gold and make the same trip on spec? I doubt it.
Another - your in Bakti wanting to buy cronite sets, do you travel with your gold to MK or any other town hoping what you want is there? or do you take the current price and availability of stock in Bakti?

POTBS was one of few pvp titles Ive played that had trade and pvp interwoven, and it worked. You could see what goods were available at different ports, and diffent locations produced different goods. Ultimately you needed a combination of everything to be successful so transport of gold and goods through pvp areas was a must... both the trade and the pvp supported one another.

By knowing what is available in different cities brokers at any given time you can create a trader, that assumes all the traveling/transport risks to move low demand goods to a high demand area... but for that to work, you really need to know the prices and availability at any given time of the locations. Pretty basic stuff really.

If I remember correctly writing will be available shortly along with some hard riding and noticeboards the advertising could be manage without your global thing.
    Would feel better too. ;)

What MO needs is a higher player base. The game is designed around more localized economies, but the playerbase is killing that idea.

In the perfect world, Nave would be bigger, and more populated, and then local materials would be more common in their specific areas, and long distance trade would be more valuable. That way, you would see more people using weapons/armor of specific types in specific areas because the materials are vastly cheaper. THIS, in my opinion, is where MO should be trying to get, because its far more flavorful and interesting.

Its important to remember that a robust economy is more of a symptom than a goal.

I know at some point that EVE style buy and sell orders were going to be introduced - think these should have been in with Dawn but got delayed. At the very least, being able to view buy and sell orders for raw materials globally would be a good compromise. This is the sort of information players will post on external web sites or ask about over IRC anyways, and smooth movement of raw materials to regions where they are needed is a cornerstone of the economy working well.

I don't see this sort of information being overly immersion breaking, information would travel pretty quickly that "meduli has surplus salt and there's a good market for granum" and that is really what buy and sell orders are communicating. Having that sort of information available in game means more time playing and less time on IRC or external websites for traders.

If it wasn't exacts- such as your example, that would be wonderful- except that it would have to be immersive at the same time. Maybe NPC traders would be able to hint at the world economy through dialogue.

    No keep it local!

You can't have global markets in a local banking game and local banking is one of the great things about this game.

If they stick to their vision the pop will come with time and development....
  12. I'm really at a loss for this apparent excessive need for immersion.
I would gladly trade all the horse piss and flying creature crapping on heads for a working viable economy and broker system.

Especially given gameplay exists such as players able to swim and dive in platemail & elephants standing idle by the butchers table while dispatched... the list is endless.

I just fail to see how view only broker information ingame is immersion breaking when it already has a dedicated forum as of now. How can this be a bad thing?

*Edit - I agree local banking is a great boon - because it promotes traveling with goods. Global markets promote traveling too, with goods and coin to the point of purchase, which you only find out through global communication. Local markets promote a closed economy.

we certainly need more trade tools but they should be local based. Local based auction house would obviously not work without a very large population but the trade broker which allows you to place items for sale at the price you want is rather perfect.

Other trade options and things to improve trade to consider....
    1. empty buildings around cities have vendors in you can hire the vendor for a weekly wage giving you access to your own trade broker only selling items you place on him, the costs are rather high and designed as a guild venture. Esentially your buying a shop, this could possibly be expanded by giving access to a chest within the shop area and selecting from a variety of signs to best relfect the goods for trade.

    2. Noticeboards, these are a perfect way to advertise your wares and let people know who you are and what you are selling, additionally they are perfect for giving directions to your shop either house shop or shop within a city.

    3. Arms Lore and better icons for crafted items would go a lnog way to improving the information players can gather from an item being sold.

    4. Shield Flag Icons, esentially a variety of icons you can choose from that overlay your blue shield when tab targeted allowing players to quickly see what your intentions are. From armor crafter, shield crafter, weapon crafter, sellsword, tamer, horse seller etc. Of course you dont have to choose one or choose the right one but allows people to tab over you and quickly notice you sell something they might be interested in.

    do not want!

part of the trader playstyle is keeping tabs on price fluctuations across regions and playing them to their advantage ... if anyone could see the prices everywhere at a glance there would be no challenge to it .... if you want immediate price information pay other players to bring you news of prices

could imagine sitting in a tavern asking for info on what steel is selling for around myrland and paying people based on how old the information is .. ofc they could be lying, thats a risk you take and you soon learn who has trustworthy info

Not showing buy/sell orders in other cities through a trade broker doesn't exclude a possibility of a global market. Having more local markets reduces globalism, and in a virtual fantasy world, this is what you want.

This is why I play MO and not WoW. I want immersion. The best aspect of this game PvP-wise is that goods have to be moved. I know you have been saying that the purchaser would have to be at the point of sale, but that simply takes out an extra step that traders would have to go through to buy the goods, which further takes away from the REALISM of the economy of MO. The best aspects of this game cannot be watered down in game more-so than they already must be (i.e. through forums, irc, etc).

The trade broker system will be implemented WITH the flying poopy monsters. Do not fear.

Alot of players, including myself, are against these sorts of things.

it takes out a step that a trader needs to advertise his products......so no to this idea.

You can make a forum thread and advertise your stuff, socialize and see that everyone knows your thread with your ueber prdoucts.......a global function would remove that and everyone would browse a window and move to the cheapest place.......which would remove local prizes also
