Patch introduced a new feature called factions, this feature was introduced to give the PvP focused players access to more unrestricted PvP. If you are not interested in this do NOT join a faction, there is no benefit to doing so unless you are looking for more PvP.

Players that are in a faction may damage and kill anyone from a opposing faction with no consequences. This rule trumps all other rules and includes pets. Any loot dropped from someone in a faction may also be freely looted by any other player in a faction.
    How to join a faction:
Firstly you will need to find a faction recruitment character. These can be found in or around Tindrem,Baki and Gaul’Kor.
To join a faction simply talk to the NPC and click “join faction”.

All three factions require you to have at least 1440 in the stat “minutes played” before you can join. This is 24h of ingame time. Players with the fledgling flag (yellow) may not join factions.

The Regalis faction also requires you to be flagged as blue before you can join and the Exuul requires you to be flagged as red before you an join. Impos does takes on both blue and red players.

If the requirements are met a 60 minute timer will start and when it’s finished you will be in your new faction.
    Faction Reputation:
Faction reputation represents your current standing with you faction. It will go up when you damage faction enemies but will also quickly drop if you hurt members of your own faction.

Every new faction member starts with 50 faction reputation and 500 max faction reputation.
Your faction reputation can never go above your max faction reputation and if it reaches -500 you will be instantly kicked from the faction unable to join another faction for 8 hours of ingame time. Your character will also be flagged as a criminal.
If you are in a faction you can see your current and max faction reputation on the character sheet.

Every 1 HP of damage you deal to a faction enemy will take 1 faction reputation from their faction reputation pool if they currently have above 0 reputation.

For every 1 HP of damage you deal to a faction ally you will lose 5 faction reputation regardless if you have above 0 or not. As stated before if this leads to you having -500 or less points you will be kicked from the faction and flagged as a criminal.

Every day you login a character that is in a faction that character will gain +50 faction reputation and +50 max faction reputation.

    Faction Scouting:
If you talk to your faction recruitment npc while in a faction you will get the option to spend some faction reputations to get scouting intel.
Scouting intel will tell you the name of a member in a opposing faction, what direction they are located in and how far away. This will cost you 100 faction reputation.
If there are no opposing forces nearby no faction reputation will be used.
    Leaving a faction:
You can chose to leave a faction by talking to your faction recruitment npc and pressing “leave faction”. This will start a timer and in 3 hours you will leave the faction during this time you will still be in the faction.
    Who are the Regalis?

When the Three-Head wisely added the Liberta Pars to the Tablets they also decided to form a faction to protect all that we have built.
There are many out there who feel that the laws don’t protect them, some scum like the Exuul even want there to be no law at all. Barbarism!
The laws have protected us but they need to be stricter. Murderers and thieves need to hang, or worse.

Thursars are allowed to walk the same streets as the emperor himself, it has gone too far!
Just look what these soft laws have gotten us into. Women and children and being cut down in front of the very gates that protect this great city.
We need to bring back structure, more taxes need to go to protecting the weak. If a bit of freedom is the price to pay for a safer world for everyone, then I would gladly pay that price tenfold.
This is what we protect, this is why we exist, what’s gained is earned and it needs to stay that way.

    Who are the Impos?

    We are many.
The Nobilitas might have all the power but we have the people and the people has grown tired.
We simply want to be left alone to build the society we want to build without constantly being hunted by Tindremic law or ruthless murderers.
There needs to be a better balance. Free men should be able to make free decisions.
Anarchy and barbarism has greatly hurt us all in the past and law is required but the sword that The Heart holds over our heads is too quick to fall.
We should be able to make our own decisions about what is right and what is wrong.
This system worked perfectly well for many years before the Tindremene grew too powerful and started to send out The Fists to enforce laws that only benefit their own.
    That is why we fight.
For our freedom to do as we please and handle our own conflicts.

    Who are the Exuul?

We have always been here, on the outside.
The swines that call themselves nobles didn’t think we fit into their society, so they exiled us.
They are weak and afraid of us, cowering behind their walls, protected by their guards.
But the times has come, we might all be murderers and thieves but we have a common hatred that burns in our heart.
Those fucking idiots up in their towers in Tindrem think they made a real clever move when they changed their precious Tredecim.
They did not count on us, however, and look at us now! A fully free faction protected by laws made by the very people who put us out here.
If a man can’t defend himself he deserves to leave for the Ether, it’s as simple as that.
It’s a glorious time indeed to have a taste for blood.

What happens when you join a blue faction and turn red, or a red faction and turn blue etc?

Pretty easy to find out, no? Don't need to get spoon fed such information :)

The requirement is currently just when you join.

Can we get capes/banners/standards that show the faction banner? I imagine that would look pretty cool. Maybe if they cost a load of a faction points to buy so it was only the "veterans" of faction who could wear them.

I really hope we're gonna see Thursars turn grey when they enter Tindrem now, bring some of the interesting lore back into the game.

Nice to see some context with the factions. Hopefully we get even more!

    Agreed 100%

Since the Regalis hate thursars, can thursar characters join the faction? IMO that would make no sense. But then again, with your fkd up racial balance you don't really have enough characters to join the faction if thursars cant join :D

The text is from a NPC you talk to when joining. It's his personal opinion.
Hence the "bad" language in the exuul desc.

    @Sebastian Persson

    How does the flagging work?

Say I'm in faction A and guild 1. My enemy is also in faction A, and he is in guild 2 that is in war with my guild. Do we lose faction score when fighting each other, and what flag do we see when targeting each other? Do we see the faction flag OR the guild war flag?

What flagging goes on top? If I see my guild member who is also in the same faction, do I see the guild flag or alliance flag?

    Faction goes on top always

So this just seems an excuse to be able to town fight people in other factions. Will you be adding some incentive for fights to happen outside of guardzone?

It's a way for people who want to PvP more to find other like-minded people all of the place.
But yes, there's a second part to factions outlined in the dev update called faction wars.
