Exactly why there isn't one in a safe place or Ells there would be a huge influx of materials then prices would become shit

Extractor and Miner are the same for me
but well lets just check this statement

    Ore Extraction Appliances 1
    Greater Natorus Operation 2
    Blast Furnace Operation 3
    Basic Ore Extraction 4
    Intermediate Ore Extraction 5
    Advanced Ore Extraction 6
    Metallurgy 7
    Advanced Metals 8
    Master Alloys 9
    Petrology 10
    Alchemical Mineralogy 11
    Alchemical Dissolvents 12

1200 Skillpoints needed for an Pure Extractor
Considering your Character has at least 90 points in Int this is possible

    But that also means
You cant do anything else with this character
he cant even do as much as running away from an enemy
tough well guess he.ll never need to because this character would never leave town anyways

  3. bjbarsted Senior Member

Well I guess that all comes down to personal preference
I like having a separat miner from the extractor then he can also be a mounted archer and tamer and swim and run could even have armor training
So I guess there is two professions in one
    Mounted archer/miner

Oh and a pure extractor you would have max int rounded to the nearest 10 so usually 110 int and the rest in str and con so u can hold your loads and some may even go as far as making them obese and getting the extra int buff giving extra points again that u can put to movement or so u get small amounts of sulfur
  4. Gilder Senior Member

    Mate
    just so you know
I am an strict Enemy of that shit about making an Character specially for one purpose
Players starting new rarely like to make a new character just to fit into a crafter
so most have Int of 70-90
if you do an Obese Huergar with 130 Int you might even get Mining into the Character
but mate thats fucked up .....
This char is doomed to be sitting in town forever
    nothing will change that

Yes you can do several sideprofessions

Mounted Archer usually needs 300 Skillpoints if your limiting yourself to the minimum needed
    Riding
    Archery
    Mounted Archery

But you actually need Armor Training because if you got Light Armor you will be dead within seconds
and you need Endurance because you cant pull a bow otherwise

also you need the Str and Dex for the Archery and Bows which means that you cant have Intelligence for crafting.

so we already got 500 points gone and are on about 40 int if you got an good character for this

now you cant always be at a horse so you need Atheltics and Combat Movement
also you need the Stances to have any chance in Combat

    Another 400 Skillpoints gone

so we already got 900 points off for Mounted Archer
I would not waste any points for swimming cause its useless for 99% of the time unless you are really living on the coast where this might matter
also Mining cant be done without Petrology
so you got 200 points gone again
which means we are already short before the end here
and you cant do aynthing but mine rocks
you cant even make metal of it or anything particular useful

    but multi professions ?
    ehm sorry no
you can do exactly one profession and amybe low grade of another one

but in the end this Char will become a Combat char and you will drop mining because you will come to the realization that you need an Melee Weapon as well
the Char will either Drop Combat or Mining
because Mining alone doesnt get you anything and you cant afford to waste points on non Combat Skills

    ah by the way
I completly ignored that this combat char still wont be any use because he cant even heal himself .....

    awww
also we are already talking about multi professions of experiences PvPlers which can afford to have Skills on something else and Fight others with disadvantage
I doubt new player will be able to do that

    Dont get this wrong
Of course everything in the world is about preference
theres some people in this world which feel in heaven if someone pokes their asshole with a long metal stick or if someone hits their balls with a whip

but majority of players are coming into mortal
thing what the fuck is with this shit is with this system and drop the game within 2 days
actually 2 days is an radical overstatement
the last two colleagues which I tried to rope into the game didnt even last 2 hours

Wow, you get to talk to the majority of all new players?
  6. dscoombs Well-Known Member

Hang on...two days is not long enough to get pissed off with the skill system. People quitting after two days just don't like the game.

    Maybe they were butthurt?

All I can say to this post is lol
My mention of mounted archery wasn't as a main thing to do mainly as a side/defensive and you can have mining and all the materials with whatever build you want since a fucking miner doesn't need int it needs str so you can carry the rock you can have a full out archer with max str and dex and drop passive regen there is your mining
Drop cc there is your petrology and all the rock lores you need there is a mounted archer primary and on the side a miner
A miner only needs 200 points if you are going to use an extracter to do the rest

Problem here is it all comes to personal preference you could want to only build the best chars or actually compromise a little and do more it's not really uncommon for solo players to do this
  8. Riftmaster Junior Member

My issue is that, with only one account and 3 mostly-complete characters, I don't really have the option of going for a miner-only to free up points on my extractor.

I have a mage/tamer with riding skill (doesn't have all the mage skills).
I have what will eventually be an Alchemist, and come Awakening a Glass Blower (I hope). Depending on the Primary requirements for that I could in theory pick up mining, but as my Alchemist is focused on int/psy (if I recall) he wouldn't be able to carry much ore.

Currently my extractor/miner can walk (albeit slowly) with a full stack of ore if too far from his mount bags. My Alchemist won't have enough str for that, and my mage/tamer definitely doesn't.

So I’ll sacrifice the higher-tier extraction/refining for the moment so that I can still mine/ride.

Unfortunately Side Professions are limited to other Jobs
You see no matter how much Skillpoints you got
Your Crafter will never have any chance in Combat
    thanks to a simple fact.
Crafters need Int and therefore cant have Dex and Str
both are however needed for Archery because you wont be able to Use Bows otherwise
You might be going for an Melee weapon as minimal defensive
but even here you will fast notice that without Atheltics you can basicly spare this one
and even then you are far away from being able of fending off an naked PvPer who is coming at you with an half decent weapon

    Also dont get this wrong
but you already said one line yourself here

You can have an Miner with 200 skillpoints if you use an extractor to do the rest
    but mate
here we already need the second character then because you need extractor again
which is logical because just mining rocks is farming only
there aint much people which do a character only to farm

oh and just to have this added as well
your calculation is a little off

Archery and Riding needs Str and Dex
Mining however needs Str and Con
    Petrology needs Int
and nobody talked about passive regen I am talking about Anatomy which is required to use bandages since you got the choice of either skilling anatomy for bandages or active regeneration for pots to heal yourself
Passive Regen is an luxus you will never get with such a char
even main Combat Characters wont have it that often

Currently theres one Fighting Build Available you can do with a minimum of Skillpoints

    Veela
    120 Dex
    80 Str
    40 Int
Minimum Size to have as much as possible Points Available

    Primarys
    Athletics
    Combat Movement
    Archery
    Anatomy
Armor Training only Learned but not Skilled (gives a minimal EQ carry bonus)

This Character Build only needs 350 Points and has halfly decent Combat Abilitys
However he is far away from being able to Defend himself
This is usually an Build used by Guild Engineers and or other Guild Crafters which know they will be along in the Fighting
They can Support Combat activitys and Shoot in from behind
also they have chances to runaway when dragged into combat

still their actual capacity in Jobs is of course very limited
means he is basicly two half Professions

but the main part doesnt change
new players wont do something like that
because many people dont like to have an char completly bound to one thing

MO is a fine game with a lot of potential in my eyes
but no matter how revolutionary and how free the whole World of MO is
it doesnt use anything if you impose incredible tight artificial limits and remove this archieved freedom for the players

Gilder how long have you actually played the game ??? " Guild engineers usually use this build " what are you basing this on your experience in many and varied guilds ?? or some Bullshit you just made up in your head ?? The Bottom line is the game will never be adjusted to make you happy it will however allow you to adjust to it , if you cant do that then get over it .

we all have a right to an opinion even you but i get sick of you making up crap or deliberatly misunderstanding people to try and jam your perspective down our throats .
We understand your point of veiw and we dont agree with it so get over it .

    These Gilder posts... ...ugh

The part that irritates me the most is he doesnt even post complete wrong information.
He simply avoids the topic everyone else is discussing and Gilder also happens to be the OP!

    How weird is that?

That said, lets not get derailed ourselves.
Tamer with CC/MA/Mining/Survival skills is a great character for solo play, i've dipped one of my miners into it and its versatility is impressive.
    • Sure your combat capability is limited to MA/foot archery only, but as i made him khurite i found it fitting in the lore and steppe life.
    • Having a tamer/cc works now, we'll see how it turns out in awakening but for now it simplifies a large portion of your playing.
    • Mining gives the character that special flavor, as you can basically mine for money or for burning time if you are not able or willing to hunt NPCs.
    • As for survival skills, they are the icing on the cake, i found i had to limit one or the other between endurance and survival, but since neither skill needs to be completely maxed, it is of no big consequence.
As far as i see it, the current system is fine and i am having a  on my face for everyone who endures the horrible life of a huergar/blainn/sidoian extractor with no athletics and dex.

If you read my last post I never once mentioned a crafter I was talking about combining a miner and a archer you said it couldn't be done I say it can since I have one
And he can go out and kill people effectively on a mount but once again it comes down to personal opinion and how badly you need to max out skill
What you might need to be effective others might not need
  14. Gilder Senior Member

Thats your xx post only meant to pester me without saying anything particular importand.
I appreciate your concern about my free time.
But more then that I appreciate our brand new forum function. THE IGNORE LIST
Which you have just reserved a place on.
I hope you enjoy your stay and have a good time.

you either got a character that sits in town
or you got an half baked character who wont do much of a job and at the same time not stand against anything but NPCs

If you read mine you see I especially pointed out that part of your Miner which how you correctly statet doesnt need Intelligence
unfortunately as I statet he needs another stat which the other skills dont need
so either way you wont get the full bonus or stats on it
and you still need int for petrology
so my original statement of the stats not matching applys again

    but in the first place
I didnt think that an Miner would be the only exception you want to point out
you see if an Miner is all you can do in this game unless you want a town sitting character
then sorry but this is still shit
even tough you cant even do a proper miner unless you want an character which is of no effective use in Combat .......

For the underlined part, i'll postpone on making a comment on how uneducated your claim is.
Correct your mistake, preferably by applying thought.

Bolded part made you lol, lol

Currently, mining in towns like Vadda, Moh-Ki, Morin Khur and Toxai an average of 70k granum per hour is easy enough, and stacks can go around 6 g.
There you go, ~40g/hour for having no risk, semi afk activity and just need the perseverance to keep "hunting" for ore. The reason why this is important is that you dont need to root yourself in any place.
You can travel to a new town, leaving everything you owned behind and mining for a while in your new location until you can afford a few sets of armor, a dozen bows and some seed money.
Then you can hunt beasts for higher return/risk and never have to worry about running out of ways to earn money.
That, or you can always rob people by shooting at rich players as a MA.

As far as its solo player use is concerned, it is due to having the best form of fighting available for a single player(MA), you do not have to risk better armor or expensive metal weapons. Instead you tame your own horses, buy a 10 weight cheap armor set for ~4 gold material cost, hopefully around 8-10g when awakening trade tools work and buy a bow of roughly 3-6 gold on the current market. Add to it bandages, arrows and a few potions and you are looking at ~18 gold at the most to be the most lethal being on the steppes.
As stamina regen for MA's is the easiest compared to any other fighting style, you dont need to max out combat manouver or endurance

Ok let's put this simple for you
This is your opinion ^^^^^^^^ every one is welcome to their opinion

The best part of this game though is not every one HAS to have the same skills as you for their char to work.
Your point originally was you cannot have two professions in one when you can.
The great thing about opinions they are like assholes every one has one and they all stink.

And you don't have to have MAX int just for petrology it only saves you 10 skill points if you, do I'd prefer to spend them 10 (let's even say 13 for argument sake) out of the actuall skill pool then to drop my stats to gain them couple of points in the skill pool.
So my statement still stands that you don't need int or psy on a miner

This hits the nail on the head.

Gilder, just stop. You're being a fail troll. If you are creative, you can make some really unique character builds that work really well. Any crafter can be a half ass combat character with 300 points, and any combat character can have rudamentry crafting skill if he wanted.

The simple answer to this is four character slots then everyone can have their butcher.

    No.

If people do not utilize their characters to their fullest extent, that is on them. You'd only be punishing creative people who understand how character creation works and actually take the time to develop their characters.
