Totally agree with the OP, i had similar experiences... But i doubt anything will ever help and i'll keep seeing people who act like retards on teh interwebz as retards in rl...

  4. Yeah this has got to be the most annoying thing of our modern era. Someone invites you out for a nice bite to eat, or a pint, then proceeds to spend half the time fondling their iphoneblackberry4g thing.

Idea for someone to get rich, "pocket cellphone jammer" within 20 ft scrambles all consumer communication wireless signals while on. Either that or add manners into the public education system (I think that's asking for wayyyy too much though).
  5. Cellphone jammers are cheap and easy to make.

Problem is, they're highly illegal in most places.

So many fucking have I realized this

Though in my own speculation on the matter I have realized that not only are they not 'internet savvy', they also lack care for grammar and/or speaking articulately.

My friend who graduated from UC Davis, has always had a high GPA and remained popular throughout the time that I have known him, falls victim to this very problem.

It's not that the he can't speak properly, has a stutter, or can't form sentences that the average person couldn't undertand; it's that he's just... oblivious?

Another friend, whom I only play Starcraft with (that thinks GUILD WARS!1!1! when I mention MMO) does the same thing. He's not really the social type dude, more of a nerd. Actually he gets pinned as the 'nerd' while I, the MMO RP'er, gets pinned as... well something else I suppose.

I hate it down to the way people text me

    'wut u doin 2night dude'

'Oh I'm not quite sure yet, probably gonna tongue punch your moms fart box and then get tanked'

'lol fer sure dude, hit me up wen u do, i have hella beer and sum girls that wana chill'

    'Alright fuck face'

I'm pretty drunk and I've almost forgotten my point and yours, but I'm pretty sure I seriously agree with what you are saying.

Fortunately in this MOFO of ours the main posters aren't these kind of assholes

I don't agree. Of all my friends the two with the best social skills are also the one's that are the most articulate and precise when it comes to grammar. In fact, one of them... who happens to be one hell of a ladies man, is actually a real nerd when it comes to language.

I think you're coming to a conclusion based on a sample group that is way too small.
  9. Definitely was drunk in this post.
  10. Back when I first started to play WoW (ages ago) there were folks who didn't know what "wtf" or "rofl" meant. They seemed very new to online gaming as whole, and probably didn't go on the internet nearly as much before they started playing. I wouldn't be surprised if I see people like this in any game... All you can do is kindly tell them what it means. I wouldn't be an asshole, in fact I'd respect them for having a life.

Yet you're talking about 2 people. You also didn't understand the OP. Please reread it before you post again. ;)

I wasn't claiming being able to prove anything, in fact I was claiming the opposite. And yes, I do understand what the op is saying, and I disagree. I don't there is a very strong, albeit some, correlation between internet and real life social skills.

Nope. You don't get it. Would you like me to explain it to you?

Bevo, you are a stereotypical old person. You are beginning to greatly dislike the generations below yours, just as the ones above you said the same things about you when you were younger. Similarly, we'll get old and complain about how the younger generations spend too much time on the Moon and not enough time on Earth where they belong.

Where you're saying "Backin my day we didn't have cell phones, this current generation will be saying, "Young whipper-snappers! Back in my day we didn't even know the moon existed!" Or something similar.
  15. Speak for yourself. I won't be growing old.

YouTube's got a good mix of people from all around the internet and all over the world.

Atrocious spelling and grammar are abound.

As for the moron thing, if you can be held accountable, people generally don't act like that. It's when they can be hidden by anonymity and a computer screen that they get balls.

Yep, and guess who's going to be supporting your generation when you get old?

All those kids you hate. They're going to be the "future", so I tend to look at it as they're just kids, and fads are what kids do and have done over all of human history.

I'll bet, sixty years ago, in the fifties, somebody said the exact same thing. Some war vet who saw the kids outside with their crazy fin-cars, greaser jackets and shit and said: "The fuck is wrong with those kids?".

But, this generation is smarter than previous ones. While they don't think as rationally, statistically, the test scores are higher. Stuff kids learned in sixth grade is being taught in fourth. Stuff kids should learn in college is being taught in eighth grade. While the percentage of kids who actually retain that knowledge is the same, it's greater knowledge, more advanced knowledge then ever before.

So yeah, the generation I'm lumped in with is that generation, but we've got some smart fucks in our stewing brew of shit, bad hair and horrible clothes. That, and considering the world population is dropping, I'd say cut them some slack--they're going to be carrying the tail-end of the baby boomers.

I say lol in Rl all the time, that's lol, not laugh out loud. It has rubbed of on most people i know, even my dad says it. My friends think i'll take over the whole town with the lol speak. xD
  18. Corwen Well-Known Member

You actually say 'lol' in real life?

Do you say it as your laughing?
