Rock climbing secondary skill can be used to go up and down a mountain if not overweight and if you have more than 50+ STR can't have plate armor and use the skill in the same time.
Higher skill higher speed and safety.

Traps can be set near keeps not see-able by non guild members (need lots of time to build but are practically free and skill-less if not mechanical like a hole in the ground with spikes(one hit kill))
also PVE traps if set in near of an animal spawn it generates carcasses of that animal (can only be used on week animals)

    Rock Climbing?

"go up and down a mountain" ... what we cannot do now?

Seriously, sometimes I am astonish what steep mountain walls I am able to walk up (and down!). So why would any new skill be required for walking on terrain that is not flat?

Climbing of structures should only be possible with ladders. Otherwise it would be too easy to just jump over palisade walls (and other abusive stuff....). And a ladder would have to be something than cannot just be carried around and dropped where you like it (rather something that is either part of a structure or not).

    Traps

Having traps of different kinds as defensive mechanisms could be doable. But they would need to be very hard and expensive (blueprint and material as well as time) to construct (and of course require the according construction skill).

Traps should not be one kill land mines! Especially not if they can be placed without being detectable. (Traps would not even need to do damage, some could only stun/knock down the victim, or make it dismount if mounted.)

But to be fair, traps would have to be set off by anyone. There should not be any guild/race specific traps. If you walk in your own trap, that is your own stupidity. :p

As for PvE traps, I do not see a need for it. If you want to hunt/catch/kill an animal, do it yourself, no trap should do it for you. (NO AUTOMATED RESOURCE REGERATION!)

What I could imagine on the other side ... thinking of the roaming animals of the last days ... what about a small (spike) fence, that you cold drop around your campfire, that would keep wild animals away (so you can rest near the camp fire in peace).

Climbing as well as traps has been talked about before beta, the devs to my knowledge have always planned on adding these eventually. However, neither of them is a high priority and will probably not be for a while. The mountains ingame are designed so that players can still "climb" up to any areas they would need to go, so until there are places designed for this that require some climbing it isn't necessary at this time.

Traps might be a little higher up than climbing, but as they are also not necessary and would be more for a fun addition to the game, they would also be fairly low compared to more important/large features.
